India has produced great thinkers and social leaders who, by their revolutionary and path breaking thoughts and actions, have left a lasting impact not only on India, but the world as a whole. They have developed indigenous ideas and have provided cultural and ethical identity to India. There is a great need to acquaint the teachers and Students with their thinking and work and to involve them in studies; research and field work based extension service programmes of constructive work. Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was a great national leader of the twentieth century. He was an intellectual, scholar, and statesman and contributed greatly in the nation building. He led a number of movements to emancipate the downtrodden masses and to secure human rights to millions of depressed classes. He has left an indelible imprint through his immense contribution in framing the Modern Constitution of India. He stands as a symbol of struggle for achieving the Social Justice. Therefore, setting up of Chairs in various Universities/Institutes in his memory is a befitting tribute to this illustrious Son of India.

 

Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was a man of versatile genius, great economist, constitutionalist, social reformist, a political thinker, a champion of downtrodden and above all a great humanist. All through his life he struggled to establish the basic principles - Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity in all walks of life in the society. To achieve these he used his mental calibers and followed constitutional Methods. His entire life was of great struggle to emancipate the exploited people. He had taken utmost care to draft the liberal Constitution, making the citizens of this nation to enjoy the fundamental rights without any discrimination on the grounds of caste, color, and creed, place of birth, religion, or sex. His notion of democracy made him to stand unique among the modern thinkers of democracy. For him, democracy is `a way of life wherein revolutionary changes in the socio-economic code of life of the people are brought about without bloodshed`. This is a testimony for his conviction in the establishment of liberal democratic system. This system to him should bring an end to all sorts of Discrimination and thereby establishing a casteless society because he believed caste is a hindrance to the growth of individual and the democratic system

Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar birth centenary celebration Committee, Government of Gujarat decided in 1992 to give one time grant of Rs. 5 lacks to establish Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar Chair in all the Universities of the state. Saurashtra University, Rajkot was also given a Chair, ( Commissioner of Yuvak Seva and Cultural Activities , Government of Gujarat, Sachivalay, Gandhinagar, office order no YPS-SNA-2003-G-4, Date 31-3-2003 ) Which had to function out of the interest earned form this one time grant of Rs. 5 lacks. Saurashtra University invited and nominated Dr. Hemixa Rao, Professor & Head, Department of Sociology as a Chairperson of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Chair. Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of Gujarat, Sachivalay, Gandhinagar, Circular No. ABD/102016/63705/H(IWDMS/71550) Date 29-04-2016 to Sanction a grant of Rs. 35 Lacks to establish Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar Chair - Centre for Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Studies. Honourable Vice Chancellor Nominated Dr. Raja N. Kathad, Professor, Department of Sanskrit, Saurashtra University as a Chairman of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Chair - Centre on Date 06-12-2016. And release grant of Rs. 35 Lacks for Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chair - Centre for Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Studies by Department of Schedule caste welfare, 4/2, Dr. Jivarajmehta bhavan, Government of Gujarat, Gandhinagar, circular no. AJK- G-1/1/2016-17/19 TO 31, Date 05-01-2017.
