On 12th April, 2008 a group of members of Rotary Club, Miss Reda Rowell, Miss Dona, Mr. Upendra Bhatt and Neel Doshi visited Saurashtra University. Miss Reda, who is the director of the development of Clayton State University, Georgia, USA, wished to visit the Saurashtra University during the interaction with the Head of the Department of Saurashtra University. She shared some academic matters. She expressed her willingness to have partnership of Saurashtra University with Clayton University. Responding to her wish Registrar assured that Saurashtra University would like to have MOU with the Clayton University. |

Brig. A. K. Verma and Cdr. R. P. Singh of N.C.C. group visited the Respected Vice Chancellor and Respected Pro Vice Chancellor. They discussed about the N.C.C. programs. Around 5000 N.C.C. cadets of Saurashtra University including boys and girls are taking trainings. These N.C.C. officials discuss regardingly the N.C.C. cadets. They requested the Vice Chancellor to grant relaxation to attendance when they are on N.C.C. duty. They also requested to make provision to allot special marks for the student candidates seeking admission to the University causes having N.C.C. "C" certificate. They also requested for cooperation in the defense studies. A separate complex for N.C.C. activities on university campus was also requested. The Vice Chancellor and Pro Vice Chancellor agreed positively to proliferate the N.C.C. activities on the campus and throughout the Saurashtra region. |

The center for women's studies i.e. "Vidushi" of Saurashta University organized a seminar on "Woman Consciousness in Gujarat: Idealism and Reality". The chief speaker and well known writer Varsha ben Adalja, Dr. Shirin Mehta and Jyoti Unadkat expressed that coherence of understanding is required among women and men to reach the idealism from reality regarding the woman empowerment. |

A One Day Symposium on “Advances in Biological Sciences” was organized in the Department of Biosciences, Saurashtra University, Rajkot on 05 March 2008. In the conference about 40 students presented their posters on modern aspects of Biotechnology and Molecular Biology. Presentations were also related to Environmental Sciences. Over all, the symposium was well attended and provided good exposure to students and faculty. The presentations were judged by the departmental faculty and an expert committee comprising out side experts. |

Every year 28th February is celebrated as "National Science Day" all over the country by various educational and research institution to commemorate the discovery of "Raman Effect" by Sir C. V. Raman for which he got the Noble Prize. The Department of Physics celebrated the National Science Day with the theme "Understanding Planet Earth" this year. The scientific talk on "Desert Ecology" by Prof. V. C. Soni of Bio-science Department and "Physics in Forensic Science" by Prof. R. P. Bhatt of Bahauddin Science College, Junagadh were arranged. Hon. Vice Chancellor Dr. Kamlesh Joshipura gave presidential talk and remarked that the scientific temperament and the spiritual quotient must go hand in hand in the academic development of a youth, which will lead to the development of our country in different sectors like defense, science and technology. He congratulated the Prof. H. H. Joshi, Head, Physics Department, Dr. M. J. Joshi and Dr. K. B. Modi for organizing such important activities. Shri S. K. Teraiya, other than Dean, Faculty of Science graced the occasion. |

"Vasant Panchami" is a festival of joy and hopes. Following the tradition, on 11-2-08 the "Vasant Panchami" was celebrated in the open square at Saraswati Temple on the campus. Honourable Vice Chancellor Dr. Kamlesh Joshipura, Pro Vice Chancellor Shri Kalpak Trivedi, Registrar Shri Gajendra Jani performed The Saraswati Pooja. The syndicate members and others joined them.
On this occasion, teachers and students of the campus with administrative staff gathered to enjoy the celebration. |

Following the tradition of the arrangement of convocation function, 42nd convocation function has been celebrated splendidly in the Sardar Patel Sports Complex on 5th February, 2008. The function started at 11:00 AM. H.E. The Governor of Gujarat State and the Chancellor Shri Navalkishor Sharma presided the function. Ms. Maya Ben Kodnani, The Minister of State for higher education graced the occasion as chief guest. Shri Vijay bhai Rupani member of parliament and member of human resource development graced the function as guest of honour.
On this occasion H.E. The Governor Shri Navalkishor Sharma in his presidential address wished good future to the students. Honourable Vice Chancellor Dr.Kamlesh Joshipura expressed his faith in the students about their capabilities to lead the nation. Honourable Pro Vice Chancellor Shri Kalpak bhai Trivedi also wished the students to have a cheerful and happy life. The member of parliament Shri Vijaybhai Rupani praised the significant progress of the university and wished a successful career to the students. |

The first time in the history of the Saurashtra University a grand celebration of the republic day is done, on 26-1-2008.
The Hon. Vice Chancellor Dr. K. P. Joshipura, Hon. Pro-Vice Chancellor Mr. K. T. Trivedi and Registrar Shri. Gajendra Jani were present in this day.
Various colleges presented their performances through floats, cultural program, physical drills, yoga, drama, etc. The NCC cadets and NSS cadets were the attraction of the systematic marching demonstration.
Dr. Joshipura after hoisting the national flag, encouraged the present youth to commit themselves for the security of the country against the terrorism.
He stressed on the integrity of the India and praised the young students for their contribution for the same.
Many people from academic fields and from the city were present. Principal of the colleges, Heads of the on campus departments, Syndicate members, NCC officers and invited guest were delighted by the splendid arrangement of the university. |
